Questione d'etichetta

The Premio Nazionale de Il Mosnel "Questione di Etichetta," or il Mosnel's "A Matter of Labels" National Prize, was launched in 2005, with the first release of this wine. Our 1990 Brut was an extraordinary, very rare wine, and its extremely limited production practically demanded a very special package.

Thus was born the idea of a competition, a kind of "divertissement" among designers. The project, thanks to the invaluable support of the ADI (Associazione Disegno Industriale), attracted the participation of Italy's most prestigious graphic designers, and in less time than it takes to tell the organisational machinery went into high gear. The result was a true competition that was greeted enthusiastically by practicing professionals, giving rise to numerous entries of remarkable creativity and interest. The jury examined all the submissions and crowned a victor: the 300 double bottles of Franciacorta Brut 1990 had found their art label! (For the record: the winners were the architects Franco Origoni and Anna Steiner, of the studio of the same name).

Three years later brought the debut of another cuvée, just as prestigious and in the same limited production run (200 magnums); this was our Franciacorta DOCG Brut QdE 1998. The vintage was fabulous, and thus it too needed a package that would communicate that uniqueness.

Il Mosnel's QdE award will continue, with the priceless support of the ADI and the participation of the top designers. Its star will remain world-class wines that will be true rarities for the serious collectors. And the competition among designers will once again spark each time that a season, careful efforts, and enthusiasm will bring forth new vintages of QdE, each with a new and distinctive art label, an artwork emblazoning an artwork. The first to collect and admire, the second to drink and enjoy.
