Varieties and Vineyards

Il Mosnel cultivates 40 hectares of estate vineyards, 38 registered to DOCG production and 2 to DOC, divided into 16 parcels. They are disposed around the heart of the winemaking facility to facilitate harvesting operations and to ensure that the grapes arrive quickly in the cellar and go immediately to the presses.

The varieties are:

The vineyards are planted in medium-deep soils that tend more towards chalk than clay; facing largely east-southeast, they are sited on the hills of Fantecolo.
Located in the communes of Passirano and Provaglio, all of the estate vineyards are managed with the utmost respect for the local environment and with a deeply-felt commitment, as far back as 1995, to the provisions of EU law 2078/94, then to Measure F, and currently to 214, which contains strict norms for respecting environmental impact.

Beginning in 1995, all of the vineyards have been re-planted. The Sylvoz training system was changed to spurred cordon and Guyot, and vine density increased to 4,000 to 8,000 vines per hectare. Careful attention was likewise given to reducing maximum yields, which is now less than 2 kg per vine.
